Building Use Registration: Did You Know

Use registration is function of the zoning process. In Philadelphia a use registration permit is required to change a building from an existing use to a new use. For example, you purchase a warehouse building and you want  to change the use to a dance studio, a change in use permit is required. The process also serves as notice to the community of the new intended use of the building. In must cases contact with the local community organization is required. Private owners may represent themselves at zoning, however; corporations and religious institutions must be represented by an attorney. Drawings of the new intended use for the building must be presented during the zoning hearing.

Once a building is acquired or a renovation project is being planned and the use of the building is programmed to be changed, the zoning process should be initiated. For more information about this process call our office at 215-395-6220 or click here
